More than 100 golfers swung into action for homelessness charity, raising around £7,000 at their annual fundraiser.

Norwich-based Hopestead teamed up with Flagship Services and Gasway – all part of housing provider Bromford Flagship – for the golf day, raises money towards the goal of ending homelessness.

The July 18 event at the Royal Norwich golf club in Weston Longville got into full swing with pre-round competitions including ‘longest drive’, ‘nearest the pin’, as well as a putting challenge. Afterwards, golfers split into teams of four for a round of 18 holes.

After returning to the clubhouse for a barbecue, participants took part in a silent auction and raffle, with bids placed on prizes ranging from golf balls to tablet computers.

Lucy Parish, director of operations at Hopestead, said: "We’re honestly overwhelmed by the generosity this year. It’s not just about the money, although hitting a record total is amazing. It’s about people getting stuck in and showing real support for what we’re trying to do.

"The money raised will go straight into our projects like Hope at Home, which helps people who’ve experienced homelessness get properly set up in their new homes with furniture and the basics most of us take for granted.

"A huge thank you to everyone who played, donated, or helped make the day happen.”

Flagship Services’ director of logistics and capital works Neal Simmons helped organise the golf day, having first set it up in 2017. The fundraiser supported different causes including Cancer Research UK in its first few years, before joining forces with Hopestead in 2022.

Hope at Home: Helping people thrive

Imagine leaving temporary accommodation for a new home, but having only the clothes on your back and a few items in your bag to take with you. That’s the reality for all too many people. Hope at Home aims to change that by turning empty houses into proper homes for people leaving homelessness behind.

Launched in 2021, this award-winning project provides new furniture, white goods, flooring, and household essentials to individuals and families moving into properties owned by Bromford Flagship.

What makes the project special is that people get to choose. Instead of taking whatever's on offer, they receive a catalogue and can pick the colours, styles, and finishes they prefer. This helps people feel proud of their new home, and reduces the chance of them returning to homelessness.

The numbers speak for themselves. Around 97% of people helped through Hope at Home maintain their tenancies, and 82% say they'd have gone without or into debt otherwise. Last year alone, the project supported 670 people including 262 children.
